Merely brushing your teeth is not enough. Listen to your dentist when he says to regularly floss as it completes the whole. A proper oral hygiene consists of both brushing and flossing the teeth. All the time you are reminded to fulfill them but it appears like flossing is taken for granted. Maybe by understanding the reasons why it is indispensable, it would be much easier to abide by.

First, flossing avoids food particles from staying in the inter-proximal area. This region in between the teeth is where tartar and tooth decay usually begins. Food debris attracts bacteria that could surely cause damage. Your dentist must have always reminded you of brushing your teeth but then again, this alone cannot guarantee healthy teeth.

The second reason is regarding proper hygiene. Dental plaque that is not cleaned and in time builds up around the teeth releases a bad smell from the mouth. This triggers halitosis or, in non-technical terms, bad breath.

The third would be to prevent gum diseases. Gingivitis, the first phase of this disease, happens when dental plaque that is left near the gums and in between the teeth results in inflammation. If this is not immediately paid attention, it may lead to a more severe and a more advanced stage, the periodontitis, which could lead, eventually, to the loss of teeth.

Continuous using of dental floss on the teeth can slow down the build-up of tartar, which is formed by the calcifying action of the saliva on dental plaques surrounding the teeth. Tartar can also bring about gum disease so holding back its development by flossing is central for a good dental health and a happy dentist.

The fifth reason mainly concerns the people who are going through heart disease. The mouth is where harmful bacteria that might get in contact with the cardiac tissue go into, so being cautious of your oral hygiene is a must. Brushing thoroughly at least twice daily and regular flossing of the teeth help reduce the possibility of complications.

Evidence shows that gum disease aggravates diabetes that is why habitual cleaning of the mouth and removing of tartar and dental plaque is necessary. Moreover, a sufferer of diabetes has body organs that generally heal gradually. Therefore, the inflammation of tissues can develop more speedily, chiefly on the gum level.

For now, the most efficient means to put off any kind of infections or diseases is to bear in mind and follow what the dentist says. Surely, each person wants to have that beautiful smile and that could be easily achieved by simply doing your responsibility to your oral health.
